Friend hit by a car
About a week ago, my adult friend was hit by a car while riding his bike westbound on Princeton St in the Packing District area, just east of OBT. A car pulled out of the Publix driveway to make a right turn onto Princeton and apparently did not see my friend, probably because he was looking left for cars in the westbound lane and my friend was directly in front of him. He hit my friend's bike on the rear wheel and sent him sprawling. My friend has multiple broken bones, but at least he wasn't killed!
His accident was a wakeup call to our group of friends because we're all avid bike riders who frequently use the paved trails and bike lanes around town. I'm not exactly sure what could've been done to prevent that accident. I don't think that's a dangerous, low visibility spot. Nevertheless, ever since then I've been very wary of cars pulling out of driveways and side streets. I always have been, but now I'm extremely wary!
